Photo by Paul Taylor was taken at Dance Theatre Workshop on October 27, 1998 where the work premiered.
The Orientation is based on Daniel Orozco’s short story “Orientation.” Daniel was a temp worker for more than ten years. The first time I read this story I connected with it, and not just because I was deep in the temp world of New York City at the time, but because his story is fundamentally about the desire for a lush and meaningful life. His descriptions of what I call “Cubicle Life” are painfully accurate. Show up, shut up and don’t you dare dream aloud.
